Susan Parris, a self-taught mantua maker (period seamstress) and living historian, has been researching and recreating full size garments from the 15th century to the 1930s for almost 20 years. As an artist, this experience allows Susan to authentically recreate every detail of her miniature historical fashion figures to a specific year.

Each one-of-a-kind figure, ranging in size from 9” to 15” tall, is entirely handmade by Susan from the inside out. Their features are individually hand sculpted and painted and attached to a stuffed linen body over a wire armature.

The hand sewn miniature couture garments and underpinnings (undergarments) are meticulously constructed utilizing sewing and draping techniques found on full size garments of the period. All accessories, wigs, shoes, hats and caps are custom made. Only quality natural and vintage materials that best represent historic fabrics are used. Unique antique accessories are often incorporated.

Commissions are welcome.
