Like the folk artists who inspire her, Ms. O'Brien is entirely serious about her work and entirely self-taught. Most of her pieces are authentic reproductions in miniature of period originals, usually from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. From charming oil portraits to painted furniture in 1"- and 2" scale, everything she does reflects her scholarly approach to her subject.

Mary's work has been featured in House Beautiful magazine; it was part of a special National Geographic Society exhibit, and she was the subject of a recent Chicago Home and Garden article. Her miniature paintings have been displayed at Colonial Williamsburg, William Penn's home, and the National Heritage Hall in Washington, D.C. And to discerning collectors, her name - Mary Grady O'Brien - guarantees a unique combination of painstaking research and meticulous artistry.

"I try to capture the charm and naiveté of those early artists. I'm always studying, always researching, and I like the idea that my art captures and preserves the essence of what someone has done before me."
