TRADITIONAL PURSE
Jane Theobald has been designing and creating Nantucket Baskets for over 25 years. Already a skilled weaver; the ruggedness, sophistication, and simplicity of the Nantucket form appealed to her from her first exposure to a sorry, damaged, but charming basket. From her first basket (a 9" round), Jane continued to grow in her design, while staying true to the functional form which she has adapted through the years, including a growing number of custom designs requested by collectors. This evolution includes the ability to embellish or simplify as needed. The structure of the basket remains consistent with using native hardwoods and rattan weaving.

Jane has been honored to be included in the Directory of Fine Craftsman by “Early American Life” magazine, has taught a limited number of classes, and has pieces of her work in select shops both in the east and on the island. She welcomes you interest in her many traditional forms, purses, trays, tables, and historical reproductions.

Jane exhibits her Nantucket Baskets at "The Designer Craftsman Show of Philadelphia" and the Creative Arts Center "Festival of the Arts" in Chatham Massachusetts on Cape Cod.
